Head coach Mike Brown told reporters on Tuesday, Sept. 29, that the team is discussing the possibility internally as it prepares for the upcoming season.
"It's something we're discussing internally," Brown, 56, said.
Brown explained that a potential trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with the president would ultimately be a decision made by the team as a whole. Championship teams across major U.S. sports have traditionally been invited to the White House following their victories.
Knicks owner James Dolan previously confirmed that the team had received an invitation.
"We just did receive an invitation from [the] White House, which we accepted," Dolan, 71, said during a June 17 appearance on WFAN New York, four days after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
"We still have to figure out the details," he added.
President Donald Trump attended Game 3 of the Finals at Madison Square Garden on June 8. Some fans booed Trump during his appearance at the game, which was the Knicks' only loss to the Spurs during the series.
Brown's latest comments are consistent with remarks previously made by several Knicks players. Finals MVP and team captain Jalen Brunson said in July that the team had not yet discussed the White House visit as a group.
"That's something that we actually haven't discussed as a team," Brunson, 30, told Variety at the time.
Another Knicks player, backup point guard Jose Alvarado, previously indicated that he would be willing to attend if the team ultimately decided to make the trip.
"If there's a chance, I'm going wherever my teammate goes," Alvarado, 28, told TMZ following the team's championship parade in New York City in June.
The Knicks have two scheduled games against the Washington Wizards during the upcoming season. They are set to visit Washington on Dec. 18 and again on March 16, 2027, although neither game is connected to a potential White House ceremony.
The White House has continued its tradition of hosting championship teams. The Los Angeles Dodgers, who won the 2025 World Series, visited the White House during the summer.
For now, the Knicks have not announced whether they will make the trip. Brown's comments indicate that the matter remains under discussion among members of the organization as they prepare to begin their title defense.
