Derrick Rose, the youngest MVP in NBA history, has officially announced his retirement, concluding a remarkable 16-year career. The 35-year-old point guard shared his decision through messages on social media and in interviews.

Rose's career took off when he was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft. He quickly made his mark, earning the 2009 Rookie of the Year award and becoming a three-time All-Star. In 2011, he made history by becoming the youngest player to win the NBA MVP award at just 22 years old, leading the Bulls to a league-best 62-20 record.

Reflecting on his career, Rose expressed a deep sense of gratitude and fulfillment. "Knowing I gave my all to the game for 16 seasons, I feel confident in my decision," he said. "Basketball was just the beginning for me. Now, it's important that I give my all to my family—they deserve that."

In his retirement announcement, Rose shared a poignant message to his fans and the game of basketball. "Thank You, My First Love," he wrote on Instagram. "You gave me a gift, our time together, one that I will cherish for the rest of my days. You told me it's okay to say goodbye, reassuring me that you'll always be a part of me, no matter where life takes me."

Rose's impact extended beyond the court. His former coach, John Calipari, praised him for his character and dedication. "He was always an unbelievable teammate, maybe the best I've ever coached," Calipari said. "He was a coach's dream, authentic and always trying to make it about other people."

Rose's career statistics are a testament to his talent and perseverance. Over 723 regular-season games, he averaged 17.4 points and 5.2 assists per game. His best statistical season came in 2011 when he averaged 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game, leading the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals.

"You believed in me through the highs and lows, my constant when everything else seemed uncertain," Rose said in his message.
