Doha Diamond League is currently set to proceed as planned, although organisers are continuing to assess the situation due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The season opening event of the Diamond League is scheduled to take place in Doha on May 8, marking the first of 15 meetings in this year's global athletics series. Despite the uncertainty in the region, officials have indicated that preparations are ongoing, with a final decision expected no later than one month before the event date.

In a statement, Diamond League organisers confirmed that they are closely monitoring developments on the ground. They are working alongside the Qatar Athletics Federation, local authorities in Qatar, and World Athletics to ensure that all necessary precautions are considered. The statement emphasized that the safety of athletes, officials, and spectators remains the top priority.

At the same time, organisers acknowledged that contingency plans are being discussed. Alternative options are being explored in case the situation changes or if it becomes unsafe to proceed as scheduled. These discussions involve multiple stakeholders who are evaluating possible adjustments while aiming to maintain the integrity of the competition calendar.

The uncertainty surrounding the Doha event comes as several major sporting fixtures in the region have already been disrupted. The current crisis escalated following military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran earlier this year, which led to heightened security concerns across the Middle East.

As a result, some high profile events have been cancelled or postponed. Formula 1, for example, called off its Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix races that were set to take place in April. Similarly, the Finalissima match between Argentina and Spain, which had been scheduled to be hosted in Qatar, was also cancelled.

The impact has extended beyond motorsport and football. During the Dubai Tennis Championships, disruptions to regional airspace left several players stranded, including former world number one Daniil Medvedev, highlighting the broader challenges facing international travel and event logistics.

If the Doha meeting proceeds as planned, the Diamond League will then continue its schedule in China, with upcoming events in Shanghai and Xiamen forming the next stops on the global athletics circuit.
