At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Titmus won gold in the 400-meter freestyle and the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, along with silver medals in the 200-meter and 800-meter freestyle events. Her triumphs came just a year after undergoing surgery to remove an ovarian tumor.Nicknamed "The Terminator," Titmus had already hinted at retirement when she announced a "very extended break" following the Olympics. "I haven't planned when I'm going back to swimming," she told reporters at the time. "I want to go back when I feel ready. It could be up to 12 months."Regarded as one of the greatest middle-distance swimmers in history, Titmus leaves behind a remarkable legacy. In her farewell message, Titmus expressed peace with her decision. "The pursuit was unrelenting and you gave it every bit of yourself," she wrote. "You walk away knowing every stone was turned, no regrets. You're fulfilled, content and happy."She ended with a message to her younger self: "Make sure you enjoy every moment, big or small. Trust me, time flies."
