Bush's journey with the Heisman has been a rollercoaster. He won the prestigious trophy in 2005 for his electrifying performance on the field at the University of Southern California (USC). He rushed for over 1,700 yards and scored 18 touchdowns, leading the Trojans to a successful season. However, in 2010, an NCAA investigation revealed that Bush had received improper benefits while playing for USC. This resulted in him having to relinquish the Heisman Trophy.

The Heisman Trust's decision to reinstate Bush comes after significant changes in the landscape of college athletics. The introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rules allows athletes to profit from their brand, a stark contrast to the regulations in place during Bush's playing days.

"We are thrilled to welcome Reggie Bush back to the Heisman family in recognition of his collegiate accomplishments," said Michael Comerford, president of The Heisman Trust. This statement acknowledges the changing landscape and emphasizes Bush's on-field achievements.

Bush himself expressed his gratitude on Instagram, stating, "No one can take from you what God has for you." He also emphasized his innocence throughout the ordeal, claiming he "acted with integrity" and the allegations against him were "unfounded."

This decision has significant implications. Bush's reinstatement makes USC the college with the most Heisman winners, with a total of eight. It also serves as a symbolic gesture towards a more equitable future for college athletes.

Former Heisman winner Johnny Manziel praised the Trust's decision, highlighting Bush's character and well-deserved recognition. With the invitation to future Heisman ceremonies, Bush will finally have a chance to fully celebrate his accomplishment alongside other college football legends.
