For the second time this year, Patrick Mahomes has secured back-to-back major awards. On Thursday, July 11, Mahomes, 28, was named the Best Athlete in Men's Sports at the 2024 ESPYs, marking his second consecutive win of this prestigious honor.

Although the NFL quarterback was not present at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, to accept the award, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid proudly accepted it on his behalf. "Listen, I am honored to be here to pick up this award for Patrick," the 66-year-old coach began. "I've been around this kid for two years now, and watching him grow as a football player, teammate, and leader has been phenomenal."

Reid also praised Mahomes for his growth as a father and husband. Mahomes shares daughter Sterling Sky, 3, and son Patrick "Bronze" Lavon III, 19 months, with his wife Brittany Mahomes. "That's been the best part of knowing the football star," Reid noted.

Concluding his acceptance speech, Reid emphasized that while the National Football League might be "very lucky" to have Patrick, it's Kansas City that appreciates "all that he does" the most.

This accolade comes just months after Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP for the second year in a row. Alongside Mahomes, nominees for the Best Male Athlete award included Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, golfer Scottie Scheffler, and Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid. Ohtani, 30, won the award in 2022.

Mahomes was also nominated for this year's Best NFL Player award, which he won. Other nominees included San Francisco 49er Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. Additionally, the Kansas City Chiefs were nominated for the Best Team award at this year's ESPYs.

In his acceptance speech for the award in 2023, Mahomes expressed his gratitude to Chiefs fans for their support, stating, "Chiefs Kingdom, I truly believe, is the best fan base in the world. We're going to do this thing again, we're going to keep this thing rolling. I appreciate all y'all."

Next, Mahomes will enjoy the final days of his offseason before the Chiefs return for mandatory training camp in Kansas City on July 21.
