Sergio "Checo" Perez and Red Bull Racing have officially parted ways, concluding a remarkable four-year collaboration marked by success and challenges. Despite a contract extension signed earlier this year, both parties reached an agreement to end their partnership after the 2024 season, as announced during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.

Perez, who joined Red Bull in 2021, was instrumental in helping the team secure two Constructors' Championship titles in 2022 and 2023. During his tenure, he achieved five Grand Prix victories, three pole positions, and countless podium finishes, leaving a significant mark on the team's history. Reflecting on his time with Red Bull, Perez expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, "Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience. We broke records, achieved remarkable milestones, and I'll always cherish the successes we accomplished together."

He also extended his thanks to the entire team, from management and engineers to mechanics and fans. "A big thank you to everyone in the team. It's been an honor to race alongside Max and share in our success. We'll meet again soon, and remember: Never give up!" he added.

Despite these accomplishments, Perez struggled to maintain competitive form during the 2024 season, finishing eighth in the Drivers' Championship with 152 points—285 points behind teammate Max Verstappen, who secured his fourth consecutive title. Red Bull's loss of the Constructors' Championship to McLaren further intensified the scrutiny on Perez's performance, leading to the decision to seek a more consistent driver.

Christian Horner, Red Bull's team principal, acknowledged Perez's contributions, saying, "From the moment he joined in 2021, Checo proved himself to be an extraordinary team player. His five wins, all on street circuits, and his relentless determination will always be remembered. While he will not race for the team next season, he remains a treasured part of our history. Thank you, Checo."

Speculation is rife that 22-year-old New Zealand driver Liam Lawson could replace Perez, but Red Bull has yet to finalize its lineup for 2025. Meanwhile, Perez's future in Formula 1 remains uncertain, though his popularity in North America may position him for opportunities with teams like Cadillac, expected to join the grid in 2026.
