Formula 1 has confirmed a multi-year extension with the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, ensuring the Belgian Grand Prix remains part of the calendar for four of the next six seasons. The new deal spans until 2031, with races scheduled for 2026, 2027, 2029, and 2031. However, Spa will be absent in 2028 and 2030 as part of Formula 1's plan to rotate certain European circuits to accommodate the growing global demand for new venues.
Spa, one of the seven tracks featured in F1's maiden 1950 championship, has long been revered by fans and drivers alike. Describing the circuit as "one of the finest racetracks in the world," Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, noted its significance: "The Belgian Grand Prix was one of the races that made up our maiden Championship in 1950, so as we kick off our 75th anniversary year, it is fitting that we can share the news of this important extension."
In recent years, the circuit has undergone extensive upgrades, including new grandstands, improved fan facilities, and enhanced off-track entertainment. This effort has been pivotal in securing its place on the F1 calendar. Melchior Wathelet, President of Spa Grand Prix, and Vanessa Maes, CEO of Spa Grand Prix, stated: "This renewal reflects the mutual trust built as we have upgraded our infrastructure and delivered record attendance and fantastic fan experience over recent years."
The Belgian Grand Prix continues to be a major event for Wallonia and Belgium, both economically and culturally. Pierre-Yves Jeholet, Vice President of the Walloon Government, emphasized: "The circuit provides the region with high-quality sports infrastructure capable of hosting exceptional events. Thanks to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, Spa-Francorchamps, and through it, Wallonia, is placed at the centre of global attention."
Despite the rotation system, Spa's four-race arrangement is considered a favorable outcome compared to losing its spot entirely, as seen with other circuits. The Wallonian government has committed significant investments, exceeding €80 million, to modernize the aging facility and align with F1's vision.
With its challenging layout, including the iconic Eau Rouge and Raidillon, Spa continues to be a fan-favorite and a vital part of Formula 1's legacy. The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix is set for July 25-27 and will feature the return of the F1 Sprint, ensuring fans enjoy three days of action-packed racing.
