The Premier League title is once again in arm’s reach for Manchester city after an eventful weekend. The League leaders played on Saturday with Luton town and managed to deliver a 5-1 thrashing at their home stadium. In pursuit for the title they hoped and prayed that their challengers choke on the challenge.

On Sunday, the first team to play was Liverpool which was hosting Crystal Palace. Palace started off fiercely as Eberechi Eze delivered a right footed shot to the centre of the goal. Woe unto the Liverpool fans as the defeat they suffered on Thursday was still fresh in their minds. In the twenty-sixth minute, following a corner, midfielder Wataru Endo struck the crossbar. This was one of the few chances they failed to utilize. Two minutes later, Luis Diaz also failed to equalize after taking to the air with a flying volley.

Most notable was the statistics in which Liverpool had sixty percent of possession with a staggering twenty-one shots and a dumb-founding 720 passes with their opponents managing only 322 passes. Manchester City fans all over heaved a sigh of relief when the final whistle blew. One and a half hours later, fellow title challengers Arsenal kicked off in their home stadium against Aston Villa. Arsenal had all the momentum in a bid to take advantage of Liverpool’s slip.

This Arsenal side were on form but Unai Emery, Aston Villa’s coach had different plans for them. The first half ended in a stalemate. The game switched possession so frequently that no one would have pre-determined the outcome. In the eightieth minute, most fans had hopes for a draw. Avert your gaze from the screen and Ollie Watkins managed to bag a goal in the eighty-fourth minute from a difficult angle on the right.

There was pandemonium. The roof was blown off. Arsenal distraught. Their hopes for a league title crumbling away. Three minutes later Ollie Watkins bagged his second goal of the day with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner after a quick break. The Arsenal fans and players crumbled to their knees. They couldn’t believe they were fumbling their second chance at a Premier League title in almost two decades. Now with six games to go, Manchester City have one hand on the title.
