Jannik Sinner made history by becoming the first man to win five consecutive ATP Masters 1,000 titles after defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to claim the Madrid Open crown.

The world number one delivered a dominant performance, securing a 6-1 6-2 victory in just 58 minutes against the third ranked German. The win capped an extraordinary run for the 24 year old, who has now collected Masters titles this season at Indian Wells Open, Miami Open and Monte Carlo Masters, in addition to his triumph in Paris late last year.

Sinner credited his success to consistent effort and discipline. He explained that the results reflect the work and sacrifices he makes daily, adding that maintaining belief in himself has been key. The Italian has now defeated Zverev in nine consecutive meetings, underlining his dominance in their rivalry.

With this achievement, Sinner moves past Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, both of whom previously held records of four straight Masters titles. Although Djokovic has won five Masters events in succession on two occasions, those runs were not achieved across consecutive appearances in all tournaments.

Djokovic remains the only player to complete the career Golden Masters by winning all nine Masters events. Sinner now has the chance to match that feat if he secures victory at the upcoming Italian Open.

The Madrid final itself was one sided from the outset. Sinner raced to a 5-0 lead in the opening set, converting every break opportunity he created while not facing a single break point. He maintained control in the second set, breaking early and again late before comfortably serving out the match.

Looking ahead, Sinner will be among the favourites for the French Open. He came close to winning the title last year but was beaten in a five set final by Carlos Alcaraz. With Alcaraz sidelined due to injury this year, Sinner's path may be clearer.

Victory in Paris would also see him complete a career Grand Slam, a milestone achieved by only a select group in the sport's history.
