The feud between the two heavyweight rappers: Kendrick Lamar and Drake had recently taken centre stage in the world of hip hop. Kendrick’s verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” in March marked the beginning of their feud. Since then, they’ve exchanged dozens of dark verses, creating a beef unlike any other in the rap world.
Lamar’s verse on “Like That” served as a direct shot at Drake. The Compton rapper didn’t hold back, and the tension escalated. The feud reached its crescendo during the weekend of May 3.
Top Dawg Entertainment's CEO, Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, recently declared the end of the long-standing feud. Tiffith's announcement, made via Twitter, stated, "This battle is over. A win for the culture, while keeping it all on wax."
Tiffith emphasized that settling the beef was a victory for the culture. He wanted to keep the battle on wax, despite media outlets trying to spin it differently. The feud had become a spectacle, but Tiffith’s declaration put an end to it. As he tweeted, “We proved them wrong. That’s a victory within itself”.
The timing of this resolution is noteworthy, coinciding with Top Dawg Entertainment's upcoming 20th-anniversary celebration. Tiffith's announcement hinted at a forthcoming compilation album, suggesting that the label is poised to transition from the feud's aftermath and focus on honoring its rich history and contributions to hip-hop culture.
Anthony Tiffith founded Top Dawg Entertainment in 2004, and the label has since become a powerhouse on the West Coast. Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning album “DAMN” catapulted TDE into the spotlight. Tiffith’s journey in the music industry began in 1997 when he started managing producers. Through hard work and learning from experiences, TDE emerged as a force to be reckoned with.
