Rising boxing sensation Ryan Garcia finds himself embroiled in controversy after his ex-wife, Andrea Celina, accused him of breaking into their former shared residence. The incident, has sparked intense media scrutiny and raised concerns about the boxer's personal life.
Celina took to social media to share evidence of the altercation, posting images and videos of a trashed home. In her Instagram stories, she wrote, "Ryan needs to focus on getting sober. I do not want anyone who is always under the influence around my children and causing harm and destroying our home physically."
The couple, who married in 2021 and divorced in January 2024, share two young children. Celina expressed her primary concern for their safety, stating, "My children's well-being is my top priority. This environment is not conducive to their growth and happiness."
Screenshots of text messages shared by Celina reveal a series of aggressive messages allegedly sent by Garcia. One message read, "Ima f*** you up," highlighting the volatile nature of their interactions. Celina claims these messages are indicative of Garcia's ongoing struggle with alcohol abuse.
Garcia's father has publicly addressed the situation, urging his son to seek help. In a statement to boxing journalist Steve Kim, he said, "What I'm seeing is that I would love for him to get some type of therapy when it comes to his drinking."
This incident comes on the heels of Garcia's recent professional setbacks. The boxer was expelled from the World Boxing Council (WBC) following controversial social media posts deemed racist and anti-Muslim. His last fight against Devin Haney ended in a loss, further complicating his career trajectory.
Legal experts weigh in on the potential consequences of these allegations. Sports attorney Michael Rubin told BoxingScene.com, "If these accusations are proven true, Garcia could face serious legal repercussions, including potential charges of breaking and entering, as well as domestic violence."
Garcia has yet to officially respond to the allegations. His management team released a brief statement: "We are aware of the situation and are conducting an internal investigation. We ask for privacy during this time."
The boxing community has expressed concern over Garcia's recent behavior. Former champion Oscar De La Hoya, who previously promoted Garcia, tweeted, "It's disheartening to see such a talented young boxer struggle outside the ring. I hope Ryan gets the help he needs."
As the situation unfolds, Celina has indicated her intention to seek legal counsel.
