Christina Applegate, known for her roles in "Married...With Children" and "Anchorman," recently shared a personal story about undergoing plastic surgery at the age of 27. The actress, who has been candid about her health since her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2021, revealed on the podcast "MeSsy" that she had surgery to remove under eye bags after a producer suggested it.
"At 27 years old, I was on a show," Applegate recalled to co host Jamie-Lynn Sigler on the July 30 episode. "One of the producers—very famous people who did a very famous show as well—said, 'Hey, we're having trouble lighting under your eyes. Your bags under your eyes are so big.'"
Applegate explained that her undereye bags were hereditary, joking that her father has "Louis Vuitton luggage under his eyes." Despite her initial reluctance, she went ahead with the surgery, the only cosmetic procedure she has ever had. "The things people just plant, these seeds they plant into your head," she reflected.
The actress has long been open about her health and has even addressed critics who speculated about her appearance amid her MS journey. In January, she responded to a negative comment about her appearance on X (formerly Twitter), defending herself and calling out the insensitivity of such remarks.
Applegate has also been vocal about the mental health challenges she faces due to her MS diagnosis. On a recent episode of the "MeSsy" podcast, she discussed her struggle with depression, admitting, "I am in a depression right now, which I don't think I've felt for years. Like a real, f--k it all, like real depression where it's kind of scaring me too a little bit because it feels really fatalistic."
The 52-year-old actress, who shares a 13-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace, with husband Martyn LeNoble, has found it difficult to move past the diagnosis. "I can't believe it's going to be three years since diagnosis in June," she said. "And I'm still sitting here like 'Boohoo, woe is me.' I'm still mad about it."
Despite these challenges, Applegate remains a symbol of resilience and openness, continuing to share her journey and struggles with her fans.
