Zac Efron recently experienced a health scare while vacationing in Ibiza, Spain. The "High School Musical" star addressed his concerned fans through an Instagram Story, posting a photo of himself shirtless, lifting barbells on an exercise ball. He captioned the image, "Happy and Healthy, thanks for the well wishes."
The incident occurred on a Friday night when Efron was found unconscious in a swimming pool at a villa in Ibiza. According to TMZ, two staff members pulled him from the water. Although the details remain unclear, Efron's representative confirmed that he was hospitalized "as a precautionary measure" following the "minor" mishap and was released the following morning.
Despite the initial alarm, Efron's return to social media with a positive message has reassured fans. His spokesperson emphasized that the hospitalization was precautionary, but did not elaborate on the specifics of the incident. "He is fine," the representative assured.
Before the pool scare, Efron was seen enjoying his time in Ibiza, including an energetic appearance on stage with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix. The actor, known for his love of travel and nature, has been soaking up the European sun, spending time on a yacht with friends and visiting places like St. Tropez.
Efron has a history of notable injuries. Over a decade ago, he suffered a severe accident at home, which resulted in a shattered jaw. He detailed this experience to Men's Health Magazine in 2022, explaining how the injury led to significant changes in his appearance due to the growth of his masseter muscles, which sparked rumors of plastic surgery. Efron has consistently denied these rumors, attributing the changes to his jaw injury. "If I valued what other people thought of me... I definitely wouldn't be able to do this work," he stated.
Efron's spokesperson reiterated that his recent incident was minor. Fans' concerns were amplified by a social media post questioning the severity of the incident. One fan tweeted, "So Zac Efron was hospitalized because he was found in a pool by two people but entertainment tonight said that it was 'minor'... doesn't sound minor to me."
Efron's European adventure has also included visits to the Greek island of Mykonos and Paris, where he attended the 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony. "When filming is done, I need to disconnect," he told The Rake magazine. "Be out in nature and let the character drift out of me... The best place for me to do that is somewhere new."
