Tom Cruise's impressive performance at the Olympic closing ceremony sparked intense social media comments, as he appeared 'new face' rather than performing stunts himself.
Last night's ceremony saw Tom Cruise's face appear puffy and bloated, causing viewers to question his narcissism and resemblance to Don Johnson, with some comparing it to Vanilla Sky.
Podcaster Shaun the Producer compared the puffiness on X to medication-induced puffiness, suggesting it may be a result of wearing prosthetics to appear older.
Consultant plastic surgeon Kshem Yapa suggests Tom Cruise may have undergone a face lift combined with fat grafting, despite concerns about the amount of fat used. As we age, skin laxity develops, causing drooping and deeper lines, said the surgeon.
He added that a facelift restores youthful facial tissue by grafting fat from the stomach or flanks into the face. However, fat grafts can still appear visibly in the face, so patients should be cautious in their grafting amount.
Experts like Mr. Yapa describe a 'characteristic look' caused by over-done fat transfer to the face, a puffy, mask-like appearance, dubbed a 'Howdy Doody face', referencing a 1960s puppet show character.
Cruise's face appeared bloated in October 2021, but a year later, he appeared youthful again at the Cannes Film Festival. This may have been due to too much fat grafting. Fat grafting alone is not recommended without a face lift, as it's difficult to undo and requires another operation. Other fillers dissolve over time.
Steroids, used to treat inflammatory diseases, can cause fluid buildup and swelling in various parts of the body. Actors may have undergone Botox and non-invasive treatments for a youthful look, which may have caused facial swelling, which can take several weeks to heal.
Tom Cruise's youthful appearance is attributed to his active lifestyle and fitness, with plastic surgeon Dr Fadi Hamadani suggesting he may have chosen non-invasive treatments to maintain his youthful appearance, similar to how Botox and fillers can cause mild facial swelling.
Celebrities often use fillers, Botox, Morpheus8, and FaceTite to reduce wrinkles and restore facial volume. The actor, who appeared'sagging' in photos on holiday in Majorca, has been speculated to have undergone cosmetic surgery, such as peck implants or liposuction, to achieve a more youthful appearance.
Tom Cruise appeared puffier at a baseball game in October 2021, but returned to his old self at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022.
