The most distressing event in Katie Thurston's life is being described. Following her announcement that her breast cancer diagnosis had advanced to stage four with liver metastases, the Bachelorette alumna described her emotional state as she fights the illness, stating that her greatest fear is "dying."

"There is a continuous time measurement that asks, 'Well, how long do people take this medication? When will I get my next scan to find out what's going on? Katie clarified when she appeared on Emmanuel Acho's podcast Uncomfortable Conversations on April 17. We really are all dying, which is why it's so confusing. Although each day is a gift, receiving a diagnosis can be so burdensome that it makes you feel like you're always watching over your shoulder.

The 34-year-old, who married Jeff Arcuri earlier this year, acknowledged that her own perspective has been impacted by others' perceptions of her "short time to live" due to her developing diagnosis.

"I feel that's not the case for me, and I'm trying to be very optimistic," she said. "My doctor has never given me the impression that's the case. People have responded favorably to the medication and the path we are taking.

Additionally, Katie has every reason to be optimistic about her chances based on her observations of previous patients on the health plan she currently uses.

"It's strange to say, but at least I have five years," she revealed. Actually, I'd like to believe I have 20 or more, given medical advancements and stuff.”

“Jeff has been a huge support,” Katie, who starred on season 17 of The Bachelorette, said, although she has had to mourn a lot of what she thought this stage of her life would look like.

"After less than a year of dating, we received this diagnosis," Katie said. "And he and I have had such a solid and healthy relationship."

"There's almost this sense of relief or protection that's like, 'Everything you thought about this love is accurate,'" she states.

In fact, Katie—who initially disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis in February—spoke about how Jeff had suggested that they get married so soon after her illness. In March, the couple formally exchanged vows, and Katie subsequently revealed that Jeff had passed the most important relationship test.

Shortly after their wedding, she told US Weekly, "He is proving that he's here to stay." "He never ceases to amaze me with the ways he shows up every day."
