Rob Schneider is not hiding from the world his failings as a father. The former cast member of Saturday Night Live took to Twitter to refute claims made by his daughter Elle King on her rough upbringing with Rob and their current lack of communication.
"It's fun being a parent, isn't?" Rob started with a sneak peek of his interview on The Tucker Carlson Show podcast on August 14. "I want to just tell my daughter: Elle, I love you, and I wish I was the father of my 20s that that you needed, and clearly I wasn't."
The 60-year-old urged Elle, who is married to Daniel Tooker and has a 2-year-old kid named Lucky, to overlook his "shortcomings," saying, "I love you completely." I adore you unconditionally."
"All I want is for you to be well and content with yourself and your beautiful baby, Lucky," he continued. "I wish you the best. I feel terrible, and I just want you to know that I don't take anything you say personally."
Rob's response impressed Tucker, who asked him how difficult it was to resist the want to "make any excuses, blame her, or attack back."
"You just—I love her," Rob clarified, "if you love somebody completely." And all I want for her is for her to get over this and be happy."
The "Ex's and Oh's" singer was up about their tough relationship earlier this week, claiming he had sent her to a weight loss camp when she was younger. Elle has not yet commented on her father's comments.
Elle said, "I was a really, really heavy child," on an Aug. 12 podcast episode of Dumb Blonde. "I was sent to fat camp by my dad. It was difficult, and I didn't lose weight, but I did get into trouble one year for spraining my ankle. It's extremely foolish and poisonous."
The 35-year-old, whose mother is London King, Rob's first wife, also recalled her less-than-ideal summers spent with her father on set.
"I would just get lost in the shuffle," she replied. "If I ever messed up a shot, or if an arm was in the camera, or I was talking, I would get in f-king trouble."
She added that her interactions with the Hot Chick star had influenced her own decisions about raising Lucky.
"My dad forgot about every single birthday," she continued. "When I returned home from my 18th birthday celebration at a summer school, my dad had neglected to bring cupcakes. I gave my son's birthday my all since I understand what it's like to be overlooked on your birthday."
Her main revelation was that she doesn't "want to be associated with him."
