When Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from husband Ben Affleck on Aug. 20, her paperwork detailed a specific request. According to documents obtained by E! News, J.Lo—or, as she is currently legally called, Jennifer Lynn Affleck—officially requested that her name be changed back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
The Maid in Manhattan actress requested that the state refuse to allow her or Ben to receive spousal support in addition to changing their names. An NBC News source close to Jennifer claims that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, thus whatever money they have earned together after getting married in July 2022 in Las Vegas is regarded as common property.
Precisely two years after their nuptials in Georgia, J. Lo filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the cause.
Following months of rumors of marital problems, which started in May at the 2024 Met Gala when the "Let's Get Loud" singer attended as a co-chair of the event without Ben, news of the couple's breakup broke. And those rumors appear to be supported by Jennifer's court documents, which mention April 26 as the date of separation.
Ben and Jennifer got together in the early 2000s and worked together on the films Jersey Girl (2004) and Gigli (2003). By November 2002, the couple was dating and engaged, but they decided to put off their September 2003 wedding. As of January 2004, the pair had called it quits.
After their split, Ben married actress Jennifer Garner in 2005, and the two went on to have three children: Violet, now 18 years old, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12. The Argo filmmaker and former Alias cast member divorced in 2018 following their separation in 2015.
Jennifer later married Marc Anthony in 2004, and the two separated in 2014. Jennifer shares twins Max and Esme, who are 16 years old. The I Am This... The singer later dated and became engaged to Alex Rodriguez; however, the couple split up in early 2021 after repeatedly postponing their nuptials.
