According to The Olive Press, a local Spanish publication, actor Julián Ortega passed away on August 25 at the age of 41 after collapsing at Playa de Zahora beach in Cádiz, Spain, as a result of cardiorespiratory arrest.
The actor was on land when he collapsed, contrary to earlier reports that he had drowned, and paramedics were said to have tried to revive him for up to thirty minutes, according to The Olive Press. At the scene, he was declared deceased.
In a statement released on August 26, the Spanish Union of Actors and Actresses said, "Our deepest condolences to his family and friends." "May you rest in peace."
In line with the union's statement, he attended the National Classical Theatre's Young Company and graduated from Madrid's Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático.
Apart from being the lead actor in the first season of the Netflix series, Ortega was a regular in the Spanish-language shows 4 Estrellas, The Countryside, and Untameable.
Many of Ortega's fellow actors posted their condolences on social media after learning of his passing (in posts that were translated from Spanish).
Actress Helena Lanza shared a selfie of herself with Ortega on Instagram with the caption, "Julian, I will always remember you." An intelligent, gifted, kind, giving, and sympathetic human being. How I loved to share plans with him and how much I enjoyed watching him on stage. How many conversations and laughs we've shared together?"
"You left us with sympathy, generosity, and professionalism; many hugs, friend, and also to your family; a real shame in the prime of your youth. RIP Julian," actor Paco Collado, who portrayed Ortega's father in The Countryside, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) to express his support.
