In a shocking turn of events, Amy Slaton, star of TLC's hit show "1,000-Lb. Sisters," was arrested at Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo. The 36-year-old reality TV personality faces multiple charges, including drug possession and child endangerment, according to local authorities.
The Crockett County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a zoo visitor being bitten by a camel. Upon arrival, deputies were "immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest's vehicle," as stated in their official Facebook post.
Slaton was not alone in the vehicle. Brian Scott Lovvorn, who was with her, faces identical charges. Both were booked into Crockett County Jail on counts of illegal possession of schedule I and schedule VI drugs, as well as two counts of child endangerment.
The sheriff's department released mugshots of both Slaton and Lovvorn, showing the reality star in an orange jumpsuit, looking visibly distressed. Authorities emphasized that the "charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence."
This incident comes at a tumultuous time for Slaton. In September 2023, she finalized her divorce from ex-husband Michael Halterman, with whom she shares two young sons: Gage, 3, and Glenn, 2. Halterman had filed for divorce in March of the same year, requesting a restraining order to keep Slaton 500 feet away from him and their residences.
Slaton's journey to fame began in January 2020 when "1,000-Lb. Sisters" premiered on TLC. At the time, she weighed over 400 pounds. Since then, she's undergone gastric bypass surgery, resulting in a reported weight loss of more than 170 pounds.
In a December 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Slaton opened up about her struggles post-divorce, admitting her mental health had been "the worst it's ever been." She expressed concern about how it was affecting her children, stating, "It wasn't just affecting me, it was affecting Gage and Glenn. So it was just rough."
The arrest raises questions about Slaton's current situation and the welfare of her children. Authorities have not released information about who was caring for the children at the time of the incident or their current whereabouts.
