Lady Gaga says her life has transformed since meeting her fiancé, Michael Polansky. At the Los Angeles premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux on September 30, the 38-year-old Grammy winner shared with PEOPLE the joy of working with Polansky on her latest album, Harlequin, which serves as a companion to the film. Polansky, 41, took on the role of co-executive producer alongside Gaga.

"This was the first time we fully decided to dive into a project together, and it just felt right," Gaga told PEOPLE. "We were both so excited and ready to go." She also expressed how much she adores Polansky, calling him her best friend and partner. "When you're with your best friend, everything changes," she said.

The couple was first linked in 2020 after being spotted together at a New Year's Eve party in Las Vegas. They made their relationship Instagram official at the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami. In July 2024, Gaga revealed their engagement during the Paris Olympics to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.

Polansky contributed as a co-writer on several songs for Harlequin, including "Good Morning," "Get Happy," "Oh, When the Saints," and "If My Friends Could See Me Now." These tracks are updated versions of classic standards and show tunes, with modern twists. The 13-track album features all covers, except for two original songs titled "Happy Mistake" and "Folie à Deux."

In an earlier interview with Vogue, Gaga revealed that Polansky encouraged her to make a new pop album. "Michael told me, 'Babe, I love you. You need to make pop music,'" she shared.

The couple made their red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival and later attended the London premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux on September 26. Days before, Gaga told Buzzfeed Canada she was eager to start a family with Polansky. "I'm so happy to be in love and excited to have a family—it's definitely number one on my list," she said.

Gaga also shared a lighthearted moment on The Graham Norton Show, revealing that when Polansky proposed on April 1st, she initially thought it was an April Fool's joke.
