Angelina Jolie has gone public on Instagram with her rumored boyfriend, British rapper and activist Akala. The 40-year-old artist appeared at a New York City event over the weekend, hosted by Jolie, 49, for her company, Atelier Jolie. Akala was spotted in photos from the gathering just before Jolie appeared in the same gallery, fueling speculation about their relationship.
The event was a listening party for Mustafa's debut album, Dunya, held at Atelier Jolie's showroom. This appearance came two days after Akala joined Jolie at the 62nd New York Film Festival premiere of her film Maria.
Romance rumors surrounding Jolie and Akala initially surfaced when they were seen leaving a hotel together during the Venice International Film Festival in August. In Touch reported that the two have been seeing each other privately for over a year. They were first spotted together at the Calabash Literary Festival in Jamaica last May, where Akala was seen guiding Jolie and her daughters, Zahara and Shiloh. The rumors continued when they were seen dining together in Milan six months later.
An insider, however, told People that Jolie and Akala are just friends. Akala's business partner and manager, Chanelle Newman, is also reportedly close to Jolie. Despite this, a second source noted that Jolie and Akala share a deep connection over their passion for social and humanitarian causes, having collaborated on projects related to global issues like human rights. Jolie is said to speak highly of him.
Although In Touch claims Jolie has been quietly seeing two men, including Broadway composer Justin Levine, People maintains that Jolie is currently single. Levine collaborated with Jolie on the Broadway musical The Outsiders, where her daughter Vivienne worked as a producer's assistant. Sources suggest Jolie and Levine are close, with some speculating that their relationship could turn romantic.
Jolie's rumored romances follow her 2019 legal separation from Brad Pitt. Their daughter, Shiloh, recently dropped her father's surname and legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie. Despite years of public custody battles, Pitt and Jolie's children remain a tight-knit group, with a strong bond to their mother.
