Julia Roberts, known for her privacy regarding personal matters, recently shared a rare and touching reflection on her relationship with her husband, Danny Moder, during the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Roberts, 56, had the honor of inducting the Dave Matthews Band, a group that holds special significance in her relationship. She revealed that the first time she and Moder danced together, nearly 25 years ago, it was to a Dave Matthews Band song. “That was a winning combination,” she said, adding that her love for both her husband and the band has only grown stronger over time.

Moder, a cinematographer, and Roberts met on the set of the 2001 film The Mexican and married the following year. Their July 4th, 2002, wedding took place at Roberts’ ranch in Taos, New Mexico, in a private and intimate ceremony attended by close friends. The couple has been together ever since, sharing their lives with their three children—twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 19, and their 17-year-old son Henry.

Though Roberts often keeps her family life away from the public eye, she has occasionally shared insights into her marriage. In a 2022 interview, she reflected on how her family has brought her more joy than she ever imagined, saying that being a mother was better than any career achievement. “The life that I’ve built with my husband, the life we’ve built with our children, that’s the best stuff,” Roberts remarked. She emphasized that while acting is a dream come true, her family is the real highlight of her life.

Her love and admiration for Moder have been evident over the years. In interviews, Roberts has often described Moder as the “anchor” of their family, crediting him with providing stability and balance in their lives. “He truly is the best decision I ever made,” Roberts said during an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow in 2018, adding that Moder has helped shape her life in the most “incredible and indescribable way.” Their relationship, she explained, has only deepened and become more complex as time has passed.

The couple’s ability to keep their bond strong amid the challenges of Hollywood is a testament to their commitment. Roberts has spoken about the little things that keep their relationship healthy, such as their tradition of writing letters to each other during long periods apart. This practice helped them stay connected when Roberts was filming Ticket to Paradise for 62 days in Australia—the longest time she had been away from her family. “The first letter he ever wrote me was seven pages long,” Roberts revealed, noting that she still keeps it tucked away and plans to share it with their daughter one day.

For their 21st wedding anniversary in 2023, Roberts shared a heartfelt throwback photo of the couple on Instagram, captioned simply, “TWENTY ONE YEARS.” Moder, equally sentimental, often celebrates their milestones with personal reflections, showing how much they value each other after two decades of marriage. Their journey, filled with love, shared experiences, and mutual respect, continues to be an inspiring Hollywood love story.
