The marriage between screenwriter Ted Griffin and Sutton Foster has come to an end. According to court documents examined by E! News, the Broadway actress filed for divorce on October 22 from her husband of ten years, with whom she has a daughter named Emily, who is seven years old.
The Once Upon a Mattress actress, who was previously married to Smash actor Christian Borle from 2006 to 2009, is going through her second divorce.
Ted and Sutton first met on a blind date. The bride walked down the aisle wearing a wedding gown she chose on an episode of TLC's Say Yes to the Dress. They became engaged in 2013 and married in a private ceremony in California the following year.
After years of infertility issues, the couple adopted their daughter Emily in 2017. Being with Ted "made me want kids," as Sutton described it.
In 2018, she said, "He belonged in my family," to People. "I didn’t really understand the concept of motherhood until he came around."
Following a "hard" IVF procedure, Sutton concluded that adoption was "so clearly what was meant to be for us."
The Younger alumnus remarked, "Now I realize Emily was so clearly meant to be our daughter," "It doesn't matter if she came from my belly or someone else's. When she was born, I asked myself, "What took me so long?"
Over the years, Sutton has also stayed in touch with Emily's biological mother, calling her "a beautiful addition to my life."
She remarked, "It's been an unbelievably beautiful experience," over People in 2022. "When you start living, you ask yourself, 'How am I going to have a family?'" Along with my daughter, I have a sizable extended family that contributes to her narrative.
