In a heartwarming celebration of diversity, the world's tallest and shortest women met for tea at London's iconic Savoy Hotel to mark Guinness World Records Day 2024. The extraordinary meeting brought together Rumeysa Gelgi of Turkey, who stands at 7 feet 0.7 inches, and Jyoti Amge from India, measuring just 2 feet 0.7 inches tall.
Despite a staggering 5-foot height difference, the pair quickly bonded over shared interests. "We both love makeup, self-care, jewelry, and doing our nails," Gelgi said. "It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great." Amge echoed the sentiment, expressing her joy at meeting her fellow record holder.
Gelgi, 27, holds multiple Guinness World Records, including those for the largest hands on a woman and the longest back on a living person. Her towering height is attributed to Weaver syndrome, a rare condition she has navigated with resilience and grace. Gelgi has also been featured in a documentary, Rumeysa: Walking Tall, chronicling her journey across the United States.
Amge, 30, is a prominent actress and media personality, known for her role in American Horror Story: Freak Show. She has achondroplasia, a genetic disorder affecting bone growth. Despite her small stature, Amge has made a big impact, becoming the shortest actress in history and a beloved figure on social media.
Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday joined the pair for their historic meeting, praising the event as a celebration of uniqueness. "By bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and with us," he said.
Both women have been named Guinness World Records ICONS, a new designation introduced for the 2025 edition of the record book. Their meeting not only symbolizes the beauty of diversity but also inspires others to embrace their differences and share their stories.
