Emily Blunt is getting ready for a whole new exciting chapter in her life as she prepares to work with the great Steven Spielberg on a very secretive project. During the Red Sea Film Festival, where she was recognized for her invaluable contribution to cinema, Blunt said she thought the call from Spielberg offering her the role was “magical.” Blunt kept mum about the film, except that production starts in February 2025, and it is the first time she has worked with the renowned director.
The untitled film, said to be about UFOs, is reportedly a return to Spielberg’s blockbuster-making roots, joining the likes of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. It is being written by David Koepp, Spielberg’s longtime collaborator responsible for Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds. With a star-studded cast including Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Josh O’Connor, and Eve Hewson, anticipation for the film is mounting. Blunt joins this stellar ensemble, bringing her dynamic presence to a project described as a major “event movie”.
Reflecting on her career, Blunt spoke about the balance she tries to achieve between her professional and personal life. A mother and global film icon, she spoke of how much she loves acting as an immersive escape: “It’s okay to be scared. Going out of their comfort zone is the most vital aspect.” This can also be seen in the array of new projects she is taking part in. One among these projects is The Smashing Machine, by Benny Safdie, wherein Blunt acts against Dwayne Johnson in an emotionally challenging journey of a UFC champion.
Blunt also teased the possibility of a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, the critically acclaimed sci-fi film she starred in alongside Tom Cruise. While no script has been finalized, she expressed enthusiasm for the concept, provided it could match or surpass the original’s innovative storytelling.
The more creative avenues Blunt decides to take- producing-she has put out her tentative interest in directing while still being very attached to her passion for storytelling. She even hinted at a possible return to the theater as she looked backward to her early roots in stage acting. This versatility and drive keep her one of the most dynamic actors in Hollywood.
