Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and Chappell Roan are celebrating the holidays in style with a festive episode of Carpool Karaoke. The hour-long Christmas special premiered on Sunday, Dec. 15, on Apple TV+ and Apple Music, marking the show's first episode in 18 months.
Regular host James Corden, 46, handed the reins to DJ Zane Lowe, 51, for this special edition. In the opening scene, Corden calls Lowe, saying, "Zane, my guy. I need a favor. I've got three friends who need a ride." Lowe is initially surprised to learn he must pick up passengers from Tokyo, Missouri, and Los Angeles, but soon dives into the festive spirit. The next scene features him singing "Deck the Halls" alongside Lady Gaga in the passenger seat.
The iconic SUV was decked out for the holidays with garlands and red ribbons accentuating its white leather interior. Throughout the episode, Lady Gaga, 38, Chappell Roan, 26, and Dua Lipa, 29, sang holiday classics like Sleigh Ride by The Ronettes and Wham!'s Last Christmas. They also performed some of their own hits, including Lady Gaga's Disease, Dua Lipa's New Rules, and Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club.
In one memorable moment, Lowe joined Lady Gaga's band on electric guitar to record a new version of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, set to be released as an audio track. Gaga also performed her 2008 holiday single Christmas Tree, leaving Lowe puzzled by its suggestive lyrics, including "underneath the mistletoe, everyone knows we will take off our clothes" and "my Christmas tree's delicious."
The episode had its fair share of surprises, including a cameo from AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson. Gaga revealed she appeared as an extra in the band's Stiff Upper Lip music video at age 17.
During Chappell Roan's segment, viewers were introduced to her family in Springfield, Missouri. Roan showed Lowe a chicken on their farm named after Lady Gaga, while her parents, Kara and Dwight, joined the ride and expressed their pride in their daughter's success.
The biggest twist came during Dua Lipa's segment. She took Lowe Christmas shopping in downtown Tokyo while singing Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody, adding an unexpected yet joyful note to the festive journey.
The Carpool Karaoke Christmas special blended music, holiday cheer, and heartwarming surprises, making it a must-watch for fans.
