Henry Cavill has been rumored to play Captain Jack Sparrow for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” for years. The speculations got really strong when “Enola Holmes 2” arrived, and it showed Cavill as an inebriated Sherlock Holmes, thereby drawing parallels with that eccentric pirate made iconic by none other than Johnny Depp.
The Involvement of Johnny Depp with the “Pirates” franchise had become dicey after his very public legal fight with ex-wife Amber Heard, which prompted Disney to severe ties with the actor. Though Depp had earlier mentioned he would not be returning to the film series, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said he would like him back on board, claiming Depp would star in a reboot “if it was up to me.”
Meanwhile, Disney seems to be setting other directions for the franchise. There were reports not so long ago about two new “Pirates” movies in the making-one was going to be a reboot with an all-new cast, another would be connected to the previous films and might star Margot Robbie.
The Idea of Henry Cavill playing Jack Sparrow has divided opinions among fans; some like the new blood he could give the character, while others are still in love with the peculiar performance given by Depp. Notably, up until this date, there have been no comments by Cavill himself on these rumors, and his apparent interest for now is “Warhammer 40,000.”
Disney has not confirmed anything yet about the casting for the future of the “Pirates” franchise. Development for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” is still in the works, and according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, it’s in the near future. The cast is still not confirmed, neither is the direction of the storyline.
All this aside, though, with rumors now about Henry Cavill picking up where Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow leaves off, there has been zero truthiness regarding these rumors. Fans can easily note that the future for “Pirates of the Caribbean” is left quite open for new stories and characters. They will need to wait for an announcement in order to see exactly where their favorite series goes from here.
