"There was so much I discovered that I had no clue about." This discovery illuminated a side of her husband that had been carefully concealed during their nine-year marriage.
Allison explained that while she had been aware of his marijuana use—often smoked in the guest house after their children went to bed—she was oblivious to the extent of his dependency. Through journals and highlighted passages in his books, she pieced together his silent battle with unresolved childhood trauma, including hints of sexual abuse. "He was wrestling with so much inside himself," she said. "He didn't want to burden others with his pain."
