"I'd see him—'him' at the time—sporadically," Brody recalled. "My mom told me I used to write on cards, 'Why doesn't dad call me on my birthday?'" Caitlyn, who transitioned in 2015, was often busy, leaving Brody feeling neglected.
Brody explained that the strained dynamic left a lasting impact, but it has also inspired him to be a more present parent. He and his fiancée, Tiarah "Tia" Blanco, welcomed their daughter, Honey, in July 2023. "I'm not living for myself anymore. I'm living for her," he said. "Not having Bruce around growing up and then going through her transition—it was tough. But it's going to make me a better father."
During the episode, Brody emphasized his commitment to doing things differently. "I'm going to be there for her in ways my father wasn't for me," he shared.
Reflecting on his childhood, Brody described his mother as incredible but admitted that Caitlyn, then Bruce, was often absent. Caitlyn's marriage to Kris Jenner and involvement in the Kardashian family's reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, added to Brody's feelings of abandonment. "To be honest, I felt a little abandoned," he said.
However, Brody acknowledged that Caitlyn was dealing with her own struggles during that time. "I've come to understand that she was navigating personal issues, including transitioning, which was all documented on TV. It felt invasive and not very genuine."
Recently, Brody received a heartfelt apology from Caitlyn, marking a turning point in their relationship. "It was the first time I'd ever gotten a sincere apology. She said, 'I'm sorry for not being there,' and it meant a lot."
Becoming a father has given Brody a new perspective. "When you have kids, you realize how your actions reflect on them. It's shaped me to be fully present for my daughter."
In a 2023 YouTube video, Brody reiterated his commitment to breaking the cycle. "I'm focused on being the best father I can be. Growing up, I didn't have that, and I'm determined to give my daughter a different experience."
