Will Ferrell’s oldest son, Magnus Ferrell, made an appearance at the New York City premiere of “You’re Cordially Invited” on January 28, 2025, as he celebrated his musical contribution to the film. The 20-year-old musician’s song, “Slow Down,” is featured in a pivotal party scene of the romantic comedy.
The University of Southern California student- written with his roommate-was a tune called “Slow Down”. The song had been shelved until Will Ferrell played it for the movie’s producers, who loved it. Recalling the experience, Magnus said, “We were kind of in a rut and wanted to make something weird and out-of-the-box. Then he was like, ‘Hey, we’re filming but they don’t have this song yet in this party scene. I showed them yours and they’d love to use it.’”
Recently signed with Republic Records, Magnus seemed quite enthusiastic about this opportunity, as his music was beginning to take off. He talked about the surreal moments he had and how grateful he was for a good support system. “I’ve got such an amazing support system and people that really believe in me,” he noted.
“You’re Cordially Invited” is the work of Nicholas Stoller and stars Will Ferrell as Jim-the bride’s dad-and Reese Witherspoon as Margot, sister of another bride. It follows two wedding parties accidentally booking the same out-of-the-way venue and the mayhem that ensues as they compete for the ideal ceremony. The cast ensembles Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Jimmy Tatro, Leanne Morgan, and others. It premieres on Prime Video on 30th January, 2025.
Through involvement in the film, Magnus speaks volumes of his music talent and, more importantly, the essence of collaboration that runs in the blood of the Ferrell family. As he slowly paces into professional life, “You’re Cordially Invited” will bring significance to his career, which is yet to build momentum.
