DeAndre Hopkins's family is proud of him. The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver wore a long mink jacket that had belonged to his father, Harris Hopkins, who died in a car accident five months after he was born, as a way to honor him when he arrived at the 2025 Super Bowl at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9.

DeAndre gave an explanation of the meaning behind the endearing fashion statement before the game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a video released on X (previously Twitter) on February 3, the 32-year-old told reporters, "My dad died in 1992, and he left me a couple of things." I always claimed that I would wear the mink jacket he left me to either my wedding or the Super Bowl, depending on which came first.

"Obviously I'm not married, so I'm going to wear my daddy's mink jacket," DeAndre said, clearly emotional.

The football player, who was romantically associated with rapper Iggy Azalea in 2018, also explained the significance of paying tribute to his father on game day.

In a video that was uploaded to the Chiefs' X account on February 9, he stated, "It means a lot to have a little bit of my dad with me because he was [the] leader of the family, leader of our community."

And after 12 NFL seasons, DeAndre's big fashion moment has been long overdue. He will play in Super Bowl LIX for the first time. But he had to make sure the statement piece was in perfect shape before he wore it for everyone to see.

He continued, "It's just a vintage jacket, but we had to get it seamed up and worked on a little bit."
