Cameron Jerrell Newton, famously known as Cam Newton says his relationship with his oldest daughter is strained because he had an outside baby on her mother. Cam Newton, who is currently a father of 8 has had 4 biological children with his long-term girlfriend Kia proctor and he adopted her oldest daughter, Shakira and raised her as his own.
During a recent episode of Special Forces, Cam Newton shared that him and his oldest day have a rocky relationship because she believes that he broke up their family. Cam revealed he stepped out on Kia and had a child with La Reina Shaw, therefore, creating tension with his daughter.
“My dark side in my life was like I was in a long term relationship and I had a child outside my relationship,” Newton shared. “We had just moved into her house and everything was kind of perfect from the outside in, you know? And my relationship with my oldest daughter has suffered. All she keeps asking was yo, why?” he recalled.
He went ahead to claim that what matters most is his children knowing that he cares about them. “I’m still dealing with that resentment so if I can heal that then that’s the start, he continued, adding in a confessional. “My daughter. We have our disconnect but I just want my children to know that their father cares, like I care.”
“ I know I hurt somebody, but I didn't want what I created to be a secret either. But all the while, too, my relationship with my oldest daughter suffered and is suffering from that. Daddy cheated on my mommy. I think it’s important for me to be accountable,” he said.
Earlier this season on Special Forces, Newton opened up about how leaving the NFL in 2021 has affected him as a father. “Being in the NFL, everyone knows there’s a large sum of money that comes to you in a short span of time, and being away from the game for three years, those checks don’t come in the same. Like, I got eight kids,” he pointed out.
