Shakira has been hospitalized with an abdominal issue, and she will have to postpone her concert in Lima, Peru. The 48-year-old singer, who has been on her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour, shared the announcement via Instagram Stories on February 16, 2025.
In her message, Shakira was thoroughly apologetic regarding the sudden medical emergency. She revealed that she had been admitted to the emergency ward on February 15 and, based on the doctors’ recommendation, was ruled out of singing at the National Stadium of Peru on February 16. “I am very sad not to be able to share the stage today,” she wrote, mentioning her eagerness to meet with her Peruvian fans.
Despite this accident, Shakira hopes for a successful recovery. She discussed the probability of being discharged from the hospital shortly and also looks forward to performing at her next scheduled concert in Lima on February 17. Her handlers and event managers are already discussing the rescheduling of the scrapped concert, and new dates would be announced soon to ticket holders.
This accident comes after Shakira’s comeback to the world stage. She launched her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour in Rio de Janeiro on February 11, 2025, her first large-scale tour in seven years. The tour is a celebration of her new album of the same name, which has been critically and commercially successful. At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 2, 2025, Shakira took home the Best Latin Pop Album for “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” During her tearful acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to immigrants and working-class women, “You are loved. You are worth it, and I will always fight with you.”
The "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour has been a huge success for Shakira’s career, with record-breaking ticket sales across South America. Following the Latin American tour, the tour will continue in the United States and Canada in May 2025, with an intention to expand to the United Kingdom in 2026.
Shakira’s fans all around the world have expressed an abundance of support and best wishes for her quick recovery. The artist’s dedication to her fans and art form is evident even now, as she recovers from this health problem and back to the stage. As developments continue, fans are best advised to keep close to official channels for information on tour schedules and Shakira’s health.
