Hollywood veteran John Goodman is recovering after he was injured in a hip injury on the set of director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming film. The 72-year-old actor, widely beloved for his work in comedy and drama, was injured while filming at Pinewood Studios in England, where the as-yet-untitled Warner Bros. production is ongoing.

Warner Bros. confirmed the accident in a statement via one of its spokesmen, who said, “John Goodman experienced an injury to his hip. He received immediate medical attention which caused a brief hiatus in filming time to allow him to recover.” Fortunately, Goodman is recovering well, and filming will resume next week after he has fully recovered.

The film, also under wraps at the moment, is directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for cinematic spectacles such as Birdman, The Revenant, and Babel. According to a short plot summary on IMDb, the film depicts “the world’s most powerful man” whose actions cause a worldwide cataclysmic event and compels him to seek to redeem himself in order to prove that he is the human messiah.

Co-starring Goodman in this big-name production are co-stars Tom Cruise, Jesse Plemons, and Riz Ahmed. With a release date set for October 2, 2026, excitement is already mounting for what promises to be a daring, provocative drama laced with Iñárritu’s distinctive flair.

Goodman’s injury is the latest of what otherwise has been a beleaguered year for the actor. His Pacific Palisades house in Los Angeles was torched earlier in 2025—yet another personal setback. Goodman continues to work in Hollywood despite the setbacks, with other projects in preproduction, such as Chili Finger and another entry in the animated Smurfs franchise.

The brief Interruption in shooting will not be expected to weigh too significantly on overall production. Industry insiders are sure that the film, boasting its star-studded cast and creative vision of Iñárritu, has a strong possibility of being an awards season contender when released.

In the meantime, Goodman recuperates, fans and co-stars alike expressing their gratitude and wishing him back on the big screen in short order.
