The reboot of the popular Prison Break is officially in production at Hulu, and the cast is beginning to come together. Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger have been set as series regulars for the next iteration of the hit franchise, Deadline reports.

Set in the same universe as the original series but with new characters and plotlines, the reboot attempts to bring some new life with its roots honored. Emily Browning (American Gods) plays Cassidy Collins, “a former soldier turned corrections officer and works at one of America’s most dangerous prisons.” Lukas Gage (The White Lotus, Road House) plays Jackson, “a product of a wealthy family who is running for Congress for the first time.” Drake Rodger (The Winchesters, Landman) plays Tommy, “an inmate who was arrested a decade ago at the same violent prison.”

The pilot Is penned by Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James, also executive producing under his Sierra Drive banner. He is accompanied by original series executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Neal Moritz, and Marty Adelstein. Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring is also executive producing.

Though the reboot won’t feature the original leads, Deadline mentions that the door isn’t quite closed. Wentworth Miller, who portrayed Michael Scofield, previously stated he would not return to the franchise, citing his decision to no longer play heterosexual characters. “I’m out. Of PB. Officially,” he wrote on Instagram in 2020. Still, there’s speculation that legacy characters might appear in the future. As Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva quipped, “I would assume T-Bag is still in prison.”

Prison Break first aired in 2005 on Fox and took off as a success with its life-or-death storyline, following Michael Scofield’s mission to get his brother out of death row. The show ran for four seasons, before a television film and revival in 2017. Though another season was never in the works, it never went beyond that—until now.

With Hulu backing the reboot and a roster of up-and-coming and veteran stars, the new Prison Break could be headed for another breakout.
