Bella Ramsey's neurodiversity is being openly discussed. The Last of Us star revealed that a life-altering diagnosis was brought about by an incident on the HBO drama's set.
In a March 19 interview with British Vogue, Bella said, "I was diagnosed with autism when I was filming season one of The Last of Us." She called the diagnosis "freeing."
The 21-year-old went on to say, "It allows me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself regarding not being able to do the simple everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do."
According to the Mayo Clinic, autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder that impacts a person's ability to function in society. Bella pointed out that although many people on the spectrum have trouble interacting and recognizing other people, their autism has actually worked to their advantage as actors.
As the Game of Thrones alum stated, "I've always been watching and learning from people." "My acting has improved as a result of having to learn more about how to interact and socialize with those around me."
Bella continued by saying that they "always wondered" about having autism spectrum disorder and talked about feeling like a "loner" and "weirdo" as a child. However, the Hilda actor sought a formal psychiatric evaluation after a crew member on The Last of Us, whose daughter is on the spectrum, assumed Bella was also autistic.
Bella said, "I have an autistic perspective on how to navigate the world." "People have no excuse for not knowing.”
