Gypsy Rose Blanchard garnered attention and sympathy from online users, following the revelation of the abuse she had to encounter. According to Al-Jazeera, Blanchard’s mother, Clauddine (Dee Dee) Blanchard had convinced her daughter and several doctors that Blanchard had several disabilities including muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, leukemia and vision impairment. Blanchard has none of these illnesses and to this day remains physically and psychologically healthy.

Due to the psychological, emotional and physical torture, Gypsy Blanchard had to endure, she ‘manipulated’ and conspired with her then boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn to kill her mother. Godejohn and Blanchard met via a Christian dating cite. Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016 after confessing that she convinced Godejohn to stab her mother. At Godejohn’s 2018 trial, she said “I talked him into it.”

Deedee Blanchard was diagnosed with Munchausen syndrome,  a psychological condition where an individual deliberately produces symptoms of illness to draw care and attention to themselves.

Speaking to an entertainment tonight reporter, Gypsy Rose opened up about what actually conspired with her mother and trying to break the cycle of abuse, following the birth of her daughter Aurora. When asked about being a mother to a baby girl, Blanchard says she doesn’t fear she would become like her mother. She claims her relationship with her daughter is already so vastly different compared to her relationship with her mother. She claims she plans to tell her children about what happened to her as a child and what made her conspire to end her mother’s life. Through the help of a child therapist and a section of her memoir dedicated to her children, Gypsy believes her children will understand her.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard also expresses her feelings about the general public demanding for her arrest, she says, “Quite honestly, I’m starting to feel like they want a perfect victim and there is no such thing as a perfect victim. In their mind, the perfect victim would've died. And so now that I survived and the perpetrator of the abuse is the one that died, then I’m getting the hate.”
