Ben Affleck has broken his silence on his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, emphasizing that their split was not fueled by scandal or drama. In an interview with GQ published on March 25, the Air director addressed their relationship's end, which came over three months after finalizing their divorce.

"There's a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something," Affleck explained. "The truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting." He further stressed that while he and Lopez had different perspectives on fame, that wasn't the reason for their separation. "There's no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue," he clarified.

Affleck, 52, also responded to speculation surrounding The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Lopez's documentary where he briefly commented on their differing views on public life, comparing it to marrying a ship captain and disliking water. "As happens in relationships, you don't always have the same attitude towards these things," he said. However, he dismissed the notion that their different attitudes toward celebrity life led to their divorce. "You've got to own what you knew going into any relationship," he stated. "That wasn't the cause of some major fracture."

Despite their separation, Affleck expressed deep respect for Lopez. "This is somebody I have a lot of respect for," he said, acknowledging her comfort with fame. "I get wanting to divine or explore the kind of differences in perspective that we have in terms of how a person feels comfortable approaching the line between public and private life." He also made it clear that he had no judgment toward Lopez's approach to public attention, adding, "I don't have any negativity or judgment or anything regarding that."

As for why they ultimately parted ways, Affleck remained private, stating, "The reason I don't want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable."

Their divorce was finalized in late 2024, with TMZ reporting that they had no prenup when they married in 2022. Over five months, they reached agreements regarding community property, including the $60 million Beverly Hills home they had purchased together.

While their marriage may have ended, Affleck's remarks suggest there are no lingering hard feelings between him and Lopez—just two people navigating life's complexities.
