Universal Pictures continues its foray into the world of bestselling author Colleen Hoover with a film adaptation of Reminders of Him, one of Hoover’s most emotionally charged novels. Rising star Tyriq Withers has been cast to star alongside Maika Monroe in the drama, which will be directed by Vanessa Caswill.
Released in 2022, Reminders of Him is the story of Kenna Rowan (Monroe), a young mother who has just been released from prison after serving time for a catastrophic mistake that changed the course of her life. She is determined to reconnect with her daughter but is faced with judgment and anger by all the people from her past. Withers will portray Ledger Ward, a pub owner and the man currently in charge of taking care of Kenna’s child. While distant at first from her, Ledger is a troubled character in the path to forgiveness, love, and redemption of the woman.
The movie’s screenplay is penned by Colleen Hoover and Lauren Levine. Both are financing the film under their Heartbones Entertainment label, with Gina Matthews of Little Engine Productions. Robin Fisichella executive produces, and Christine Sun will oversee the project on behalf of Universal.
This is another significant milestone for Withers, whose career is developing at a fast rate. He can next be seen in the psychological horror film Him, which is being made by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. In that film, Withers is a skilled high school football player who’s asked to train with a mysterious, veteran NFL quarterback, played by Marlon Wayans. Him is opening in a broad release on September 19, and early buzz after its CinemaCon preview already has it on the awards-season watch list.
Withers also appears in the sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer, which will hit theaters in July, and will star in ACE Entertainment’s Family Secrets.
Hoover’s literary empire continues to grow in Hollywood. With over 20 million books sold worldwide, she’s a top dramatist and contemporary romance writer. Reminders of Him lags behind other high-dollar adaptations, including It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively, and upcoming movies based on Verity and Regretting You.
With an emotionally resonant plot, a built-in fanbase, and a solid cast, Reminders of Him is set to be a solid addition to Universal’s slate.
