Ashley St. Clair has confirmed that her son with Elon Musk is named Romulus St. Clair. In a recent Wall Street Journal interview, the author and political influencer unveiled the name of her child for the first time, following months of secrecy and legal tension. Romulus, born in September 2024, had previously been referred to only by the initials "R.S.C." in court documents.
Romulus is Musk's 13th known child and joins a lineage marked by unusually named siblings like X Æ A-XII, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus. The name Romulus draws from Roman mythology, referencing the legendary founder of Rome. According to St. Clair, Musk urged her to "pick a name" from the very first night they were together. Later, upon learning she was ovulating during a trip to St. Barts, Musk reportedly asked, "What are we waiting for?"
St. Clair also alleged that Musk encouraged her to have a cesarean delivery, in line with his belief that it benefits brain development — a suggestion she declined. After Romulus' birth, she was approached by Musk's longtime associate Jared Birchall with an offer: $15 million upfront and $100,000 a month until the child turned 21, in exchange for her silence. St. Clair refused, saying, "I don't want my son to feel like he's a secret."
The alleged deal also excluded security expenses, a trust fund, and life insurance, and required repayment of the full $15 million if she breached its terms. St. Clair claims Birchall warned her that taking the legal route "always, always leads to a worse outcome for that woman than what it would have been otherwise." Musk has not publicly confirmed paternity but stated on X "I don't know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out." He added, "I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year."
A Labcorp test later confirmed with "99.9999%" certainty that Musk is the father. Following this, St. Clair sued for sole custody. She claimed Musk significantly reduced her child support and cast doubt on paternity in retaliation. "That's his modus operandi, when women speak out," she said.
Romulus now becomes part of Musk's complex family network, and for St. Clair, his name is not just symbolic — it's a declaration of identity, truth, and defiance.
