During the Next in Fashion host's 30th birthday celebration on April 23, Bella Hadid couldn't help but share pictures of her sister Gigi Hadid and her 4-year-old niece Khai.
"You are the funniest, coolest, most fun, creative, artistic, loving, and thoughtful human/big sis," the 28-year-old said to Instagram, "and to watch you be the best, most fun, and badass mama to our Khaiba is the greatest gift to me as a sister."
Bella continued, referring to her older sibling, Khai, whom Gigi shares with her ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik, as her "newest best friend," saying, "You have a heart of gold, constantly being thoughtful of others but always staying true to yourself. You have taught me so much of how to be myself in a world of people telling us all who we are supposed to be. And that’s a gift I cherish from you beyond anything." In one old photo, Bella hugged her Gigi while she was still pregnant with Khai, and in another, the three of them were seen on the beach with family matriarch Yolanda Hadid. In a third picture, Bella and Gigi cuddled with Khai, but the little child's face was obscured by an angel emoji.
As Gigi stated in 2021, she and her family will "never intentionally" display Khai's face on social media. "We hope she will be able to choose how to share herself with the world when she grows up," the model wrote on Instagram Stories at the time, "and that she can have as normal a childhood as possible, without worrying about a public image that she has not chosen." Since then, Gigi has consistently shared pictures of Khai in which her daughter's face is obscured by an object or turned away from the camera. Many fans have praised this decision, with one commenting under one of Gigi's Instagram posts earlier this month, "Even without showing her face, we can feel how loved and special Khai is."
Touched by the sentiment, Gigi replied, "This means a lot."
