JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes have clarified their relationship following their time on Celebrity Big Brother UK. Appearing on This Morning on April 28, the duo addressed speculation surrounding their close bond, which sparked after JoJo's breakup with Kath Ebbs.
"Obviously we're close," JoJo stated. Chris described their connection as "a really strong bond between two people," adding, "you can have like a soulmate friendship." He explained that although it is not a conventional friendship, it remains platonic: "It's just nice."
When asked if the friendship could become romantic, JoJo responded, "It is platonic. We have a lot of fun together. Life is life. I don't know any future of anything. But I'm really grateful for our dynamic and our bond that we have and whatever life does, life will do."
Their connection deepened during the three weeks spent isolated inside the Big Brother house. Chris reflected, "Having someone in there to go through an experience like that and have someone there every day when you're emotional, when you're down, when you're happy—that was beautiful."
JoJo also shared insights into her split from Kath. She revealed that during the show, she spent time reflecting: "I sat with myself and really realised things I was okay with in my life I never should have been okay with. So many things." On ending the relationship at the wrap party, she clarified, "That was not a plan or my intention... they asked if I was happy and I said no. One thing led to another, and that conversation did take place there."
Kath Ebbs later confirmed on Instagram that JoJo had ended their relationship at the party, saying JoJo "realised in the house that I wasn't the person that they wanted to spend the foreseeable [future] with." Kath hinted that JoJo might have developed feelings for Chris, liking comments suggesting JoJo "fell in love in real time" on television.
Chris also defended JoJo during the show when a homophobic remark was made by another housemate. "When there's right and wrong, it's easy to express what's right and wrong," he emphasized.
While JoJo and Chris maintain that their relationship is purely platonic, fans remain captivated by their chemistry, especially after JoJo hinted at wanting to stay in the UK following the show.
