James Charles, a social media influencer who garnered a huge social media following due to his makeup brand and techniques is currently facing backlash after allegedly having a sexual relationship with Evan Johnson, his friend’s ex. Kayla Malec, Johnson’s ex took to social media to claim that James Charles opted to have an intimate relationship with her ex despite him knowing that Johnson was physically abusive towards her. James Charles has currently posted a 10 minute long TikTok explaining his side of the story.
James Charles started his video by claiming he doesn’t support Evan Johnson in any way, further stating that they have never been in an intimate relationship. He claims he was unaware of the domestic abuse allegations against Johnson and doesn’t condone violence against women. Charles also said he chose not to speak out sooner because Johnson and Malec were going through a court case he did not want to be involved in.
James Charles also says he has been trying to reach out to Kayla Malec for weeks, trying to speak to her concerning the situation, however, she has not been responding. He also claims that he would be suing Zach Sellers, an influencer for spreading “lies.” Sellers earlier exposed the relationship between Charles and Johnson in his interview with Bee Better.
James Charles says his association with Evan Johnson and Kayla Malec begun after he asked the pair to feature in a video for his brand painted. He claims he did not know the cause of their breakup, therefore, he assumed it was due to cheating, not domestic abuse. He states his relationship with Johnson was brief and short-lived, claiming it ended before he knew what happened between Johnson and Malec.
According to James, Evans told him he had just gotten out of a toxic relationship with Malec and they both said and did things that they shouldn’t have done to each other. He claims he sympathized with Evans and understood his point of view because he seemed vulnerable. He alleges Evans made him have sympathy for him and be on his side. He states that after their brief “connection”, they begun talking everyday and also started face timing.
Following the controversy blowing up and James Charles sharing his apology video, the beauty star has lost thousands of followers across various social media platforms.
