Candice King and Steven Krueger, who once starred in The Vampire Diaries universe, are officially engaged. The announcement came on May 14, nearly two years after the couple made their relationship public.
The two actors shared the screen during the fifth and final season of The Originals, with King portraying Caroline Forbes and Krueger playing Josh Rosza. King revealed the engagement in an Instagram post, writing, "A couple of weeks ago @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him." She added, "The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you Steven. Thank you for asking me to dance through life with you."
The announcement coincided with King's 38th birthday, which she called her "favorite year yet." To celebrate, the couple had an engagement photoshoot at their favorite cocktail bar, Martha My Dear, in Nashville. The photos, taken by Catherine Powell, show King in a white satin mini dress adorned with a lace bow, while Krueger wore a classic black suit. In the images, King proudly displays a square-cut diamond ring on her left hand as the pair sip cocktails.
Fans and former co-stars were quick to offer their congratulations. Nina Dobrev, who played Elena Gilbert, commented, "Congratulations," while Michael Trevino, who portrayed Tyler Lockwood, added, "Woo Hoo!!!! Love IT!" Riley Voelkel, known for her role as Freya Mikaelson in The Originals, responded, "Omg screaming!!!! So happy for you both!!!!"
The official Vampire Diaries account also acknowledged the engagement with a trio of black heart emojis. Other celebrities, including Scarlett Hefner, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Hannah Brown, joined in celebrating the couple.
The engagement follows the couple's public confirmation of their relationship in December 2023, when King posted a year-end video that included a clip of her sharing a kiss with Krueger. At the time, she wrote, "I laughed. I cried. I laughed til I cried. I loved. Thanks for the dance 2023."
Previously, King was married to The Fray guitarist Joe King from 2014 until their separation in 2022. They share two daughters, Florence and Josephine.
