Tom Cruise is once again capturing the internet's attention—but this time, it's not for a daring stunt or blockbuster scene. The 62-year-old Mission: Impossible star recently went viral after a video surfaced showing him enthusiastically eating popcorn during a fan screening of Mission: Impossible – Fallout at the BFI IMAX in London on May 11.
The clip, shared by X user @seifwtf, shows Cruise frantically shovelling popcorn into his mouth while grinning, undeterred even as a voice in the background announces he is being awarded the prestigious BFI Fellowship. Fans quickly responded with amusement. One joked, "I have got to change the way I eat popcorn," while another wrote, "Tom Cruise eating popcorn like he an uncle with a handful of peanuts."
The viral moment led to a wave of memes and comments across social media, likening Cruise's snacking style to that of a "middle-aged dad" and praising his commitment to movie snacks. "Only time I've seen Tom need a stunt man," one user teased on X.
Cruise addressed the trending video during a guest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show with co-host Darius Butler on May 21. Butler playfully challenged the actor, asking, "Are you actually eating popcorn or are you full of s*** right here, TC?" Laughing, Cruise confirmed, "Man, I'm eating popcorn. They know when I'm going to these movies that I'm watching, I'm eating popcorn."
Cruise also commented at a screening of his latest film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, saying, "I normally eat two big buckets myself during a movie" Rolling Stone said. His generosity was also on display when he noticed a fan with an empty bucket and encouraged them to "go get some more."
This isn't the first time Cruise's popcorn passion has been on display. In 2023, during the promotion of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, a social media video featured the actor on a leather sofa gleefully munching popcorn and declaring, "I love my popcorn. Movies. Popcorn."
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theaters on May 23.
