Jimmy Kimmel is embracing his new role as a grandfather with humor and heart. On the June 3 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 57-year-old host shared his thoughts on becoming a grandparent for the first time. During a chat with Loki star Tom Hiddleston, Kimmel said he's enjoying this phase of life, joking, "It's easier than being a dad—no breastfeeding involved!"

Hiddleston asked Kimmel if he felt like he was competing with the other grandparents for the top spot in his granddaughter's heart. Kimmel laughed, saying, "Oh, there's definitely a ranking system in my mind. But it's not up to me—that's for my granddaughter to decide. Still, I'll do everything I can to be numero uno."

Kimmel first announced the birth of his granddaughter on May 20 during his show's opening monologue. His daughter Katie, 33, and her husband Will Logsdon had recently welcomed a baby girl. At the time, Kimmel joked her name was "Melania Thee Stallion," before revealing her actual name: Patti Joan.

"She's named Patti—like the melt, but with an 'I' instead of a 'Y,'" he explained, adding that her middle name, Joan, is a tribute to his own mother.

Kimmel's wife, Molly McNearney, also shared how thrilled he is about grandparenting. Speaking to PEOPLE at the 50th Gracie Awards on May 20, McNearney said Kimmel is "so excited" about this new chapter and is already taking it seriously.

"He's doing great," she said. "I think he's a little nervous too. When Katie told us she was expecting, we got in the car, looked at each other and said, 'We're going to be grandparents.' Then he paused and added, 'With Invisalign.'"

She laughed, recalling the moment: "He said, 'We can't return the baby, so I guess the Invisalign has to go.'"

As for parenting advice, McNearney said Kimmel and Katie share a similar sense of humor that's sure to be passed down.

"They both use laughter to get through everything," she said. "There's no situation too serious for a joke, and I imagine their daughter will grow up with that same spirit."
