Rena Sofer is bidding the West Coast farewell. After almost 35 years, the General Hospital actress, who plays band manager Lois Cerullo on the ABC soap opera, announced she is leaving Los Angeles.
She posted, "Yes, I’m getting emotional," on Instagram on August 4. "I met the man of my dreams, had my kids, and built an amazing life in Los Angeles." I made all of my lifelong friends and achieved incredible success in the business, which I will sadly miss.
Rena and her spouse, Sanford Bookstaver, who has a daughter, Avalon Leone Bookstaver, age 20, have announced that they are relocating to New York State with their five dogs.
"Thank you, LA, for being you," added the actress, who is also mom to artist Rosabel Rosalind, 28, with ex and General Hospital costar Wally Kurth. "And now on to quieter and calmer times."
The 56-year-old's close friend, however, told E! News on August 7 that "there has not been a conversation about her leaving the show."
Rena's move to the East Coast coincides with General Hospital's summer exits. Kirsten Storms announced in early July that she would be moving to Tennessee and taking a long leave of absence.
In an Instagram video, she expressed her gratitude to GH, the ABC network executives, and the writers for allowing her to take this time. "I am so appreciative of their understanding and support."
"They can always be like, 'Forget it,' when you approach a job like this," added Kirsten, who has been playing Maxie Jones since 2005. We will terminate your contract if you plan to leave the state. I also requested some time off, so it was kind of amazing that GH did not do that.
Sofia Mattsson resigned from her position as Sasha Gilmore later that month, stating that her seven-year tenure had "gone by incredibly quickly."
In a July 18 interview with TV Insider, she stated, "I've seen every day as a challenge and opportunity to grow as an actress from the start, and honestly, that mindset has never stopped." "I feel like I learned something new every day until the end!"
