When choosing a name for her new baby, Jessa Duggar relied on her children. The former cast member of 19 Kids and Counting revealed a week after she announced the birth of her sixth child that she and her husband, Ben Seewald, named their son Edward Owen Seewald with the help of their five older children.
In a YouTube video posted on August 11, Jessa stated, "The kids are very excited," and included clips of her children choosing their favorite name. "They were rooting for Edward."
However, the couple was drawn to it for other reasons as well. Ben also explained how the name came to be, saying, "Edward—Jonathan Edwards, King Edward VI of England—has some historical significance. After that, John's middle name is Owen. Owen is one of my favorite theologians."
Jessa and Ben, whose other children are Spurgeon, 9; Henry, 8; Ivy, 5; Fern, 3; and George, 20 months, said it took some time to come up with a name, even though the family is happy to have done so.
As Jessa revealed in the video, "We decided to leave the hospital without a name." "They informed us that after we give them the name, they have roughly six days to send the birth certificate paperwork."
"Ben said we can just try out each one of our top three names for like a day or two and see which one feels the most natural," the TLC star, who is the fifth oldest of Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar's 19 children, explained. "The couple was between the names Owen, Calvin, and Edward."
"Sometimes you've got to see their face and maybe even test some names out for a few days," Ben continued. "But we finally made up our mind."
But Jessa is confident in the network of support her newest baby has around him, regardless of what his birth certificate says.
"There are seven other people in this house who genuinely adore him and give him a lot of hugs and kisses," she said. “He's a very loved little guy.”
