Blake Lively is officially returning to the big screen with her latest project, The Survival List, a film Lionsgate describes as an "action romantic comedy." This marks her first leading role since the release of It Ends With Us and the subsequent legal feud with co-star and director Justin Baldoni.

According to the studio, the film follows Annie, "a highbrow reality TV producer" who is reluctantly assigned to a new series hosted by famous survivalist Chopper Lane. When a shipwreck strands Annie and Chopper Lane on a remote island, she quickly realizes that the so-called survival expert lacks any real skills. Left to take charge, Annie must figure out how to keep them alive, and in the process, an unexpected connection begins to form between the two. The casting for Chopper Lane has not yet been announced.

Lively is set to both headline and produce the film. She reunites with Lionsgate, the studio that previously worked with her on A Simple Favor (2018) and its 2025 follow-up. Joining the production team is acclaimed producer Marc Platt, whose credits include Wicked and La La Land. The screenplay was written by Tom Melia, with Lionsgate executive Scott O'Brien overseeing production.

While The Survival List signals Lively's return to romantic comedy, it also comes against the backdrop of her ongoing legal battle with Baldoni. In December 2024, Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment during the filming of It Ends With Us. She claimed that after voicing her concerns, he struck back by orchestrating a campaign intended to damage her reputation.

Despite the legal turmoil, Lively has emphasized her desire to take on roles that give her more creative input.  With The Survival List, Lively appears to be doing exactly that—taking control both on screen and behind the camera.
